We asked members why they belong to the Music Circle, and what they get out of it. This is what some of them said. If their comments ring some bells with you, why not come along to one of our meetings? If you need directions or any more information please contact us. |

"Pleasures are to be shared, and the Cambridge Music Circle gives me the opportunity to share my choice of music with others. Over many years I have listened to and enjoyed both known and (to me) unknown music. Long may the CMC survive. Why not come along and join our very friendly group of music lovers?" "It's great to get together with people who love music and have the chance to explore different tastes and views. It's also a small enough group to get to know everyone individually, and the atmosphere is unpretentious and friendly. As a shy person I particularly appreciate the opportunity to practice public speaking, in a supportive environment, when I present my own programmes of music. Everyone is valued; it's fun and we learn a lot." "Congenial people. The opportunity to hear music which may be new to me and also to hear much loved favourites. To know that each Monday will be quite different from the one before." "One of many reasons I enjoy being a member is just to hear good and varied music beside friends who love doing the same thing. There is a great feeling of peace and participation, although each evening is so different not at all the same when one listens on one's own. We have excellent live performers twice a term, who are a delight. We do feel we are good friends together, and learning from each other, and we would love you to come along and try us out and see if WE are for YOU! It really is great fun." |
"The Music Circle began to meet at Chesterton Community College in September 1962. My husband and I joined this friendly group a year later, when we decided to start a record collection of the then new LPs. Knowing little about classical music we found weekly programmes introducing us to new pieces and new composers an ideal guide on our journey of discovery. Ever since then, the programmes presented by members have been an interesting mixture of the familiar and surprises. Some presenters say something about the music, others just play it straight no previous knowledge is required! Since the Circle was founded in 1946 it has moved from 78s, through LPs, tapes and CDs, and even to the iPod. A warm welcome awaits you!" "I get to hear lots of music that I wouldn't necessarily have chosen myself and find that I like it! A friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable group." "Introductions to new music, or fresh recordings of music I know. Interesting music friends who share their enjoyment of the recordings they choose to play. A chance to hear live music with no transport or parking problems. Time to just listen no phones or other interruptions. Such a wide range of music." "There's the pleasure of being able to share a new discovery with friends who will usually appreciate it! And most important for me, the stimulus to look into the background to a work that I'm going to present even if I don't use all the information I find because it gives me a better understanding of it." |
